Song Name: The Real
Label: FNC Entertainment
EP/LP Name: The Real: N.Flying
I won’t lie, I was very nervous about this release. Back when N.FLying released ‘Awesome’ I was ready to love them. They were everything I was missing in my world. Then, since that album, they have been meh. A CNBlue clone when they are around and mostly in Japan otherwise. Don’t get me wrong, the Japan part is a wise move for a band, but I wanted that cool rap rock sound that took me back to my youth at least.
Cue the teasers for this comeback, a new fresh faced member and brightly coloured aesthetics… My hopes were an all-time low. I am pleasantly relieved by the song, it IS upbeat but still maintains a ‘harder’ edge to it with more the aggression I wanted from the group. It isn’t my dream song by them but it’s a sign that FNC hasn’t given up on giving them a unique sound to the other bands on the label and that is good.
While it may not be my ultimate goal for this group I do really like the song, the two singers voices compliment each other well, perhaps too well at some points when it’s hard to identify who is singing but perhaps more songs together will show their distinctive qualities better as parts of this song really do show how different their voices are.
I am glad this song has a more public friendly ring to it as hopefully, this will boost opportunities in Korea for the boys. I also hope this isn’t a slippery slope into mediocrity.
The video is BRILLIANT, utilising the brightly coloured aesthetics that are moulding K-Pop right now whilst being somewhat tongue and cheek. The ‘plot’ is, frankly, hilarious and the boys are pretty solid actors (at least in the context of a music video) and avoid the band cliche of only one member being the one with charisma. Costuming is questionable at some points but I am choosing to believe this is also tongue cheek, whether that is the case or not doesn’t matter…I need this.
I love how the group have kept up their awesome cameos and I won’t spoil it but definitely, watch to the end! Costuming is questionable at some points but I am choosing to believe this is also tongue cheek, whether that is the case or not doesn’t matter…I need this.
